The 10 best beaches in Vietnam

While Vietnam may not be as famous as its Southeast Asian neighbors with their leaning palms and turquoise waters, its 3400 km coastline hides numerous stunning beaches, not to mention some tropical islands with coral reefs offshore. Whether you’re looking for a stretch of sand near one of the bustling cities, a family-friendly spot, or a quiet bay to escape the crowds, these are our choices for the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam.

1. An Bang

Just 3km north of Hoi An, An Bang is one of the most fascinating and attractive beaches in Vietnam. It boasts a fantastic stretch of fine sand and a wide horizon (with fewer signs of serious erosion than at Cua Dai), with only Cu Lao Cham interrupting the coastline’s symmetry. Staying at the beach and exploring Hoi An on day trips is a great strategy for a relaxing visit to this area.

2. Phu Quoc

Surrounded by white sandy beaches and vast areas still covered by dense tropical forests, Phu Quoc has quickly transformed from a quiet island into an unmissable beach resort for Western expats and sun-seeking tourists. With perfect white sand like a painting and crystal-clear waters, Bai Sao is perhaps the ideal choice, but if you dare to venture alone, you may find a secluded spot of sand for yourself.

3. Nha Trang

Forming a beautiful wide arc, Nha Trang’s 6km-long golden sandy beach is the highlight of the city. Designated areas for safe swimming (where you won’t be bothered by jet skis or boats) are marked and enforced. Two popular relaxation spots are the Sailing Club and Louisiane Brewhouse. If you prefer a more secluded sunbathing experience, head south to avoid the majority of the crowd.

4. Con Son

Isolated from the mainland, the Con Dao archipelago is one of Vietnam’s top attractions. Once a place of confinement for political prisoners and miscreants, it now turns heads thanks to its outstanding natural beauty. Con Son, the largest island in the chain of 15 small islands, is surrounded by beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and stunning bays while still partly covered in tropical forests.

5. Mui Ne

Mui Ne used to be a gem among Vietnam’s beach resorts, but recent years have seen harsh tides erode its golden sandy beaches and excessive development diminish its allure. Nevertheless, there are still some hidden beautiful sandy spots here, ideal (seasonally) for those who enjoy nighttime parties and sunbathing during the day. Kitesurfing is also an enticing activity with excellent schools and world-class wind conditions from late October to April.

6. Doc Let

Stretching 18km, the white powdery sand and turquoise shallow waters of Doc Let ensure its ranking among the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. However, in recent years, developers have made strong shifts, and tourists flock here from Nha Trang on day trips. Continue north along the coast to find more secluded spots including Bai Bau and Bai Xep.

7. Ho Coc

My Khe BeachWith golden sandy beaches, clear waters, and just a two-and-a-half-hour journey from Ho Chi Minh City, this beach – stretching nearly 10km north of Ho Tram – is an appealing stop. Ho Coc is becoming increasingly busy with tourists from Saigon, but on weekdays, it still maintains its tranquility.

8. My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach

My Khe is quickly becoming the bustling suburban area of Da Nang. In the early morning and evening, the beach is crowded with city residents practicing tai chi. Tourists appear during peak sunbathing hours, while local people prefer later in the evening; fishermen still head out from the sandy shore in their coracles. The water may have dangerous undertows, especially in winter, but it is protected mostly by the Son Tra Mountains.

9. Cat Ba

Cat Ba, rugged, challenging, and covered in dense jungle, is the largest island in Halong Bay and a stopover for most UNESCO-recognized cruises. Consequently, the island can become very crowded, somewhat diminishing its tranquility. However, visit during quieter months to witness the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. The three beaches of”

10. Lang Co Beach

A couple of kilometres from Hue in central Vietnam, Lang Co  is a superb beach, with fine white sand and good swimming. It stretches for kilometers along a thin, casuarina-lined spit of sand, separated from the mainland by Song Kinh Giang, a body of water just inland from the beach. If you avoid holidays and weekends you’ve a good chance of having this pretty beach largely to yourself. The shoreline’s profile is gently shelving so it’s great for children. Not to be confused with Danang’s beach of the same name.

Remember that the popularity and conditions of beaches can vary depending on the season and weather, so it’s always a good idea to do some research before planning your visit.
